US Pot-Limit Omaha specialist Dash Dudley survived the stacked final table of the WSOP Europe €550 Pot-Limit Omaha for a first-place prize of €51,600 and his second gold bracelet from the popular poker series.
Dudley has been around the poker tables for nearly two decades. His experience definitely paid him well last night when he emerged victorious in the second event on the schedule of this year’s edition of the WSOP Europe, one of the hottest poker festivals on the poker calendar.
The WSOP Europe kicked off with a bang over the weekend to gather together poker pros and amateur players under the roof of King’s Casino Rozvadov in the Czech Republic.
The €550 buy-in Pot-Limit Omaha (8-Handed) drew a field of 476 entries who generated a prize pool of €226,100. The top 38 finishers received payouts from the tournament, min-cashes starting from €1,075.
After two days of action, the field of the event was whittled down to just six players. They returned for a third final day to play down to a champion. Each of the six finalists was guaranteed a minimum payout of €7,850, but six pairs of eyes were set on the first-place prize and the coveted gold bracelet.
Dudley entered the final day of action fourth in chips. He went through ups and downs, a tough final table, and a short heads-up to eventually reign victorious.
Dudley’s Final Day Run
As mentioned above, the eventual champion did not have the most comfortable start of final day of action. He was fourth in chips when cards were thrown in the air and he had to go through some very tough fellow competitors.
Speaking to reporters after his win, Dudley praised his final table opponents, saying that “this is one of the toughest final tables, if not, the toughest final table that I’ve played.” He went on that he ran against “guys with a bracelet, there were players that had won PLO tournaments before” and that “there was a lot of experience, there wasn’t really any soft spot at the final table.”
Down to three-handed play, Dudley suffered a very bad beat that left him with seven big blinds. However, he quickly regained momentum and weakened the player who was responsible for his troubles – Ukraine’s Denis Drobina. Dudley quickly won several big pots to claim the chip lead.
Drobina was out of the race just a couple of hands later. He was eliminated by Canadian Christopher Back, and it was between him and Dudley to determine the winner. The heads-up match kicked off with the eventual winner holding a big lead against his final opponent. And it took Dudley about half an hour to finish off Back and claim the title. Back settled for the second-place prize of €31,825.
As mentioned above, last night’s victory was Dudley’s second win in the WSOP. Last summer, the player took down the $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha championship in Las Vegas for his first gold bracelet and a healthy payout of just over $1 million.
